The Northern Territory government are ready to come in as an investor in the North Queensland Fury.

Club spokeswoman Glenys Schuntner yesterday confirmed that talks had been held.

''There have been discussions in the past ... and certainly we are very keen to work with the Northern Territory and other regional centres in Queensland to get the team to play in those regions, so discussions have been had,'' Ms Schuntner told the Townsville Bulletin.

''I'm not aware of a contract being signed at this stage, but certainly with the development of the Fury going forward, we will continue those discussions ... they have been positive and we need to take that further in terms of planning for that.

''It's early days and our main goal is on the deadline we have for March 31 to secure the sponsorship for the year ahead ... we'll certainly be making progress on those issues in coming weeks.''

The cash injection from the NT government could be worth as much as $600,000.
