North Queensland Fury defender Eric Akoto has admitted he has been pleasantly surprised by the standard of the A-League.

North Queensland Fury defender Eric Akoto has admitted he has been pleasantly surprised by the standard of the A-League.

The 30-year old Ghana-born centre-half, who last week retired from international duty with the Togolese team, joined the Fury in July from OFI Crete and believed at first that it was going to be a walk in the park.

“When I got here I thought it would be easy, then we met Perth and Robbie Fowler who is this great English name who also played for my club,” Akoto told Australian Football Weekly.

“’Oh wow’, I thought, this competition must have much respect. It is not like Europe here, I’ve had to learn the A-League and learn the different mentality.”
