North Queensland Fury are in danger of losing marquee striker Robbie Fowler to a club with more money.

The ex-Liverpool star is currently being pursued by Sydney FC and Perth Glory and it seems likely that he will not remain at the Fury because the two aforementioned clubs can afford to pay him more.

Interim Fury boss Archie Fraser told the Townsville Bulletin that the Townsville-based club were not in a very strong position to retain Fowler.

''The club has discussed with Fowler's management the level we can go to to have him here next season,'' Fraser said.

''We have been surprised to learn that the indications are other clubs are offering higher than his previous contract with the Fury.

''It is disappointing for us and for our fans but we have to acknowledge that it is most likely he will be playing elsewhere and we need to now move on.

''The positive news for our fans is that it now does free up a substantial amount in our salary cap for the Fury to aggressively seek a number of quality players for the club.''
