North Queensland Fury’s Williams ready to step up

North Queensland Fury striker David Williams says he is ready for the pressure of taking the goalscoring burden on his shoulders.

The Fury are without their usual strikeforce of Dyron Daal, who is injured, and Isaka Cernak and Chris Payne, who are on national team duty with the Olyroos, for tomorrow’s home clash with the Melbourne Victory and the 22-year old knows he needs to step up.

“If you play in those positions (attack), you can't leave it to your defence or defensive midfielders," he told the Townsville Bulletin.

"It's a case of whoever and whatever position you've got, then you need to do your best and that might mean strikers have a bit more pressure to score.

"Some players buzz and play better under pressure ... with bigger expectations.

"We'll find out Saturday who really is capable of doing the job.

"Personally, I love playing at Dairy Farmers Stadium and the excitement that comes with home games.”
