North Queensland Fury’s Akoto gets one match ban
North Queensland Fury defender Eric Akoto has had his original two-match ban reduced to one by Football Federation Australia.
The Togo international was sent from the pitch in the 81st minute of his side’s 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory on Sunday for pushing Victory skipper Kevin Muscat and had a two-game suspension imposed by the independent Match Review Panel.
But the Fury appealed the decision and had it downgraded to the mandatory one-match ban, delighting Fury chief executive Rabieh Krayem.
"We always believed we had a good case for Eric's suspension to be reduced and are happy with this outcome," Krayem said.
"Eric is a quality player and he will be missed this Saturday but we've recruited well during the off-season and have depth in our squad to cover such eventualities."
