North Queensland Fury star Fowler cools Adelaide talk
North Queensland Fury striker Robbie Fowler has cooled talk of a move to Adelaide United.
Fowler has offered a pre-emptive 'no thanks' to an Adelaide United team keen to secure the star Fury striker on a short-term Asian Champions League deal.
''No, I don't think so. I got a phone call the other day saying that this was the rumour and I was just dead honest that I had heard nothing,'' the Fury captain told the Townsville Bulletin.
''If I do that, I've been here for a year now doing football and, regardless of what job you do, whether it's football or in an office, I think you do need a holiday. I'm due a holiday - instead of playing six, seven weeks in a champions league, sometimes you do need a break from football.''
The reports are nothing short of wild speculation anyway, as Football Federation Australia would be required to change transfer rules to allow it to happen.
As it stands Adelaide and Melbourne, Australia's representatives in the competition, are only allowed to target players coming off contract, which Fowler is not.
Even if that were to occur, marquee striker Fowler said that at 34 years old finishing a full season and then continuing on for a further six weeks would not be ideal.
''At the end of the day I'm not getting any younger,'' he said. ''I'm not even sure what group games they're playing, but I'm sure the travelling is probably seven, eight, maybe more hours on a flight.
''I don't think I need that at this stage of my career, to be fair.''
