Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits the club needs to continue produce it's own to be competitive.
Ferguson revealed in his match programme notes for the Carling Cup win over Spurs that the club needs to focus on their young players due to the inflated transfer market.
He said: "I have to protect the future of Manchester United and that means, especially in these days of inflated prices in the transfer market, producing a steady stream of our own players. So it never entered my head that I should do anything but select the team that you will see out on the pitch tonight. I know Spurs will be on a high, but that’s just part of the challenge these young players need."
