Chelsea's Lampard claims booing of Cole at Arsenal is counter productive
Frank Lampard has ridiculed Arsenal fans' constant booing of Ashley Cole claiming it only spurs the former Gunner on to playing his best.
Cole is still singled out for abuse every time he returns to North London after switching to Chelsea in a move that saw William Gallas arrive in exchange in the summer of 2006.
"I don't think booing ever works," he told the London Evening Standard.
"I don't know when people will learn that it's not the way to do it. I think the best thing is to stay quiet, watch the game and cheer on your own team.
"Putting all your efforts into just getting someone psyched up to do a good job against your team is obviously the wrong way to go about it."
Lampard, who receives a heated reception every time he returns to former club West Ham, went on to describe Cole as the best full-back in the world.
"Ash is very experienced with dealing with it - he's had it a few times now and it obviously spurs him on to put in performances like he did," he stated.
"He's shown his quality for a long time. For probably the last two years he's been completely out on his own as the best left-back in the world."
