Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has ruled out Maynor Figueroa moving to Sunderland.
Martinez, who is set to recall Figueroa after injury, will tell Bruce he is looking to increase the size of his squad, not reduce it, in during the transfer window.
The Spaniard said: “We don’t want to lose players especially as we have a thin squad. It pleases me when other managers and other clubs show interest in our players.
“It means we are doing something right. But we don’t need to sell to balance the books.
“We’re in a middle of a big process and we don’t want to lose anyone.
“Last Sunday was a freak result but it has made me more determined to succeed. We want to get into Europe in a period of two or three years and I think we can.”
