Oh please, just ignore an idiot like Agger. The guy has nothing to live on but past glories. You'll notice of course that fans of his ilk, who used to parade how many English championships Liverpool had won, have now fallen silent on that score now that United has drawn level with them. In fact, after United's most recent EPL championship, it was sadly obvious that the only route left for people like Agger was to hold on to the European titles as some kind of sad prop, like some tired old man having to lean on his creaky old cane. No one denies Liverpool's glorious history, and only a fool or a rabidly one-eyed fan would begrudge them that. Problem for people like Agger though is that history is all that's left to them, as Liverpool have largely fallen by the wayside over the last two decades and been overtaken by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and of course United - even a so so team like Blackburn has managed to win the EPL title! Agger, if you look up the history books you'll find that teams such as Aston Villa, Everton, and even Sunderland also have great records in the top flight of English football, but no one seriously considers them title contenders these days, nor do their fans run around thumping their chests or beating the drum about how great they are - hell, the last time Sunderland won the old first division was 1936!

You exemplify all that is wrong with Liverpool, a team who's very success in the 70's and 80's has become an anchor round its neck because the weight of expectation and comparisons with the past have become too much for all involved. You trundle along in the belief that Liverpool is still 'there', when the reality is that you've won next to nothing since 1990 except a few domestic knockout cups and a fortuitously won European title in 2005. If that's all you've got to show for 20 years of top flight football, and you consider that to be a sign of Liverpool's preeminence, you're a sad and delusional young man greatly in denial. In that same time frame United have won the EPL 11 times, the European trophy twice, and added in so many different cups that it's not worth going into detail. Arsenal have won the EPL three times in that same period, while Chelsea have taken it out twice. Liverpool ranks a distant fourth to those three overall during that period, and then only because of the European win.

So keep hanging on to that old cane, Agger, because it's highly likely that history is all you'll have to hang on to for the foreseeable future - in fact it's very likely that Liverpool will go the same way as Sunderland and become totally irrelevant. It was obvious that Liverpool overreached last season, just as it was obvious that they'd fall back to the pack this year. The team doesn't have the quality in depth to succeed over a long campaign, nor the financial resources to do anything about it. But keep on keeping on, because it's people like you who keep crushing Liverpool down with the crippling expectations and delusions of grandeur that you thrust upon them.
