Russell delighted to help Real Salt Lake clinch title
Yesterday’s MLS Cup win by Real Salt Lake was Utah’s first major sporting title since 1984 and penalty hero Robbie Russell was delighted to be a part of it.
The 30-year old defender netted the spot-kick that handed the title to the Salt Lake club and said it was one of the best moments he had encountered in his career.
“Nothing in the world can describe it," Russell said "There are no words that can describe it. It's just utter elation. Just pure ... you turn around and you see those guys running at you ... there's just no way to describe it."
Another defender who converted his penalty kick was Chris Wingert who echoed Russell’s sentiments.
"It's just due to our character," Wingert said. "It's unbelievable; nobody can ever take this away from us."
