Inter Milan boss Mourinho: Santon, Balotelli don’t have mentality to be champs
Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho says young pair Mario Balotelli and Davide Santon do not have the mental strength to make it to the very top.
On Wednesday Balotelli visited 65 disabled kids and told one of them that he supported Milan instead of Inter. His sister then came out and confirmed the story.
Speaking at Inter's weekly Press Conference, Mourinho said: “I am the best sports psychologist. I am better than those I have spoken to. They have a theoretical knowledge, while mine is practical.
“I have worked in football for a lifetime and the best sports psychologists are the trainers.”
Mourinho then spoke with disdain about reports that claim Balotelli likes to drive at 240km/h.
“At the beginning of my career I lost an incredible player who was just 20 [the Russian Cherbachov] because he liked to joke around in cars.”
Finally Mourinho returned to Balotelli's actions at the charity event on Wednesday.
“I like that Mario is loved by his family, but I am the Coach of Inter. Someone who does charitable things does it with the heart, not for the publicity and when one of us participates in something I don't understand why the family has to carry the Press behind them.
“If a player goes and loses two, three or four hours doing a fantastic thing for the people, I don't understand why he has to carry the Press behind him and give an interview.
“I don't understand because Inter have an organised structure on a Press level. The example is when Materazzi went to visit a prison. I don't understand why a wonderful thing like Balotelli ends up like this.
“It's not a drama. He was born a Milanista. Inzaghi was born an Interista and he has scored 300 goals for Milan. But the club has a structure and Santon and Balotelli represent Inter's future.
“Right now, they don't have the mental qualities to become champions,”
