Ex-Arsenal and Ireland star Brady: A ‘shameful’ day for football

Republic of Ireland assistant Liam Brady has labelled the Thierry Henry handball incident in Wednesday’s controversial World Cup qualifier as ‘shameful’.

Brady, the former Arsenal and Ireland star, launched a scathing attack on FIFA after the match, saying they will be happy with the result because they only want big football nations at the World Cup.

Brady’s comments may have mixed reactions as Arsenal has a large French contingent as he is also the London club's Head of Youth Development.

“From the 120 minutes, we deserved to win and it is a shameful day for football when something like that happens,” Brady said.

"It wasn't up to Henry to say I touched it with my hand. It's not his task to say he handles it. He cannot say, 'Excuse me, referee, I handled it'.

“When it comes to the crunch, the big teams always seem to go through. With the draw, they were wanting Portugal and France to go through and they did.”
