not stupidity, when shev was offered to west ham he would have been unknown and he was only known worldwide when he lit up the champions league with kiev in 97/98 season if i'm not mistaken, and he was already in the first team for a few years b4 that. so 1mil for an unknown player before say 94/95 would have been too much esp when you take into account that the best striker in the prem imo left blackburn for newcastle for a then british transfer record of 15mil a year later.

Well for our benefit. Sheva is truely a great legend for us Milanistas. He was the most feared striker until he moved to Chelsea and the 'stupid one' killed him.
