Schelotto on verge of leaving Columbus Crew
Guillermo Barros Schelotto has given a clear indication that he may leave Columbus Crew.
36-year old Schelotto has been told he must take a pay cut if he is to remain with Crew and has confirmed he will consider other options in regards to his playing future as his and Crew’s ideas are ‘far apart’.
“There is a lot of time until the new season,” Schelotto told Columbus Dispatch. “But I am open to possibilities. Until today, the Columbus Crew had the option. But now I am waiting to talk to whomever. I am waiting for other offers. My intention was to stay here but we are very far apart.”
An inside source said that the Argentine would have to take a pay cut of up to 65 percent which would drop his base salary by about $400,000 (from the $650,000 he was originally on).
Schelotto said he was currently disappointed with what Crew has to offer but did add that he may sit down and consider it when the initial shock blows over.
“Maybe I am a little - not angry - but surprised,” Schelotto said. “Maybe I will analyze this offer from Columbus when I get cool.”
