Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez hopes to close a deal for Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo.
The Mirror says Martinez needs a forward after Marlon King had his contract terminated when he was sent to prison.
Tamudo, 32, is out of favour at Espanyol, out of contract next summer and the Spanish club are ready to let him go in January.
