Napoli coach Mazzarri: I must rebuild Quagliarella confidence

Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri says he needs to rebuild the confidence of Fabio Quagliarella.

The Italy international has struggled for form since arriving from Udinese.

Mazzarri said: “Let us immediately clarify something – Fabio was a centre-forward at Udinese with Antonio Di Natale on the left and Simone Pepe on the right.

“He did that for two years very successfully, so the problem here is not an issue to do with his position.”

Instead, Mazzarri aimed a none-too-subtle dig at predecessor on the San Paolo bench Roberto Donadoni.

“When I arrived, Fabio wasn’t in great shape for numerous reasons. He had an ankle injury, but continued to play anyway, then skipped training sessions in order to recover.

“Evidently whoever came before me believed Quagliarella always had to play regardless of his condition.”
