Porto want to bring back Blackburn's McCarthy
Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Mon, 11/09/2009 - 11:42
Porto are chasing Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy.
The News of the World says the South African striker won the Champions League with the Portuguese side in 2004 before moving for £2.5million to Rovers, where he has become a bit part player this season.
Porto are interested in his return, though they will want Blackburn to help smooth the deal by paying some of his wages.
Portsmouth are also pondering a bid for McCarthy - if Rovers are happy to let him go in a cut-price deal. But Allardyce has initially ruled out allowing the 31-year-old to leave too cheaply, insisting: "There would be a certain value we would place on him."
