Marseille stint helped me greatly – Burnley’s Mears
Burnley defender Tyrone Mears says his loan stint with French club Marseille in 2008 has helped him turn his career around.
The 26-year old right-back has been Burnley’s most consistent player this season after signing from Derby County in the summer and after some tough times with the Rams and West Ham, is now enjoying some good form thanks to his time in France.
"It was unbelievable to go there and it improved me as a player, it made me more composed on the ball. I had that aggressive and athletic side to my game which English players are known for, but the other side got better,” Mears said.
"I also changed my attitude. In previous seasons I was trying to stand out and be the best player in the team. Now I have realised you just have to do your job and hopefully that will be enough."
