Beach Ball referee set to be 'rested' this weekend
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 17:00
Mike Jones, the referee in charge of Liverpool's game with Sunderland at the weekend, is set to be demoted over his beach ball blunder.
The Cheshire official allowed Darren Bent's strike to stand after it went in off the big red inflatable, when he should have chalked it off and restarted the game with a drop ball.
The referee has effectively been dropped for one match.
Jones will now officiate a Championship game rather than a top flight fixture this weekend.
