Valladolid president reveals Wigan offer for Alvaro Rubio

Real Valladolid president Carlos Suarez has revealed Wigan Athletic failed with a deadline day bid for midfielder Alvaro Rubio.

Suarez said: "An English team, I think Wigan, called yesterday asking for Alvaro Rubio, but he was off the market (Spanish) and there was no agreement."

Rubio was surprised by the news, admitting: "It's the first news I have heard. I'll ask the president out of curiosity. I am very happy here and I intend to stay here, although I cannot rule out anything and English football has always interested me."
