Chris, thank you for your response. The Liverpool game was the most Bolton fans had to be excited about in a long time. It was like the Bolton of old - getting under the skin of the big boys and giving them a run for their money. I can understand why a piece such as yours was written on the back of that game as after watching that, it would appear to neutrals that there wasn't much wrong at our club. However, Megson plays the exact same way against every other team in the league no matter their quality of players. I'm assuming you didn't see our defenders against Hull hoof the ball clear of Fagan and Ghilas like they were Drogba and Anelka. There are certain teams where you need to use those sort of tactics but there are also times when as a Premier League manager, Megson should have faith and trust his players to be able to string 3 passes together.

Absolute truth in what Warthog says. Its the long standing fans who have seen the good and the bad, know what both of those are, who are qualified to say that what we have now is the worst.

I have seen good teams not try, bad teams try, good teams try and now a bad team not try.

The absolute problem is that Bolton Players do not want possession of a football. If they get it, they treat it like a hot potato, and if they don't, they do not bother to go get it.

If you add that mentality and method to a complete lack of shape, game plan and tactical awareness re substitutions and team selection you get the picture,

Lets not forget either, the cost of witnessing this rubbish in ticket price and time

@wigan fan

Stop showing how low the average IQ of Wigan Athletic supporters is and go support your own team. And your "second" team Man Utd and your "third" team Arsenal... ::)

Hey all you Bolton Boo Boys, or should I say Boobs, you will be playing Championship football next season. Its got nuffin to do with Megsie, its just that your poor sod of a owner hates to use his money to buy players.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thanks to everyone for reading my piece and taking the time to comment on it.

Wow, I know I'm in trouble when people starting call me 'Mr'! I appreciate the passion everyone has shown - and I concede I got it wrong when failing to add that the huge cost of a season ticket means every fan has a right to their say.

'Warthog', the reason for the opinion piece was that it seemed to me that nothing positive Megson - or indeed Bolton - was doing was getting any traction in the media. I just don't understand why what Megson has done with lads like Cahill, Muamba and Taylor hasn't received any recognition. I was worried about Megson's approach to the Academy when he first arrived, given what happened at West Brom, so I was encouraged that he gave Basham his chance last season.

I just want to ask, is there anything positive you can see Megson is doing? Maybe we just look at the game differently, but I can get excited when seeing guys like Cahill getting regular football, improving rapidly and then showing his commitment to the club by having that buyout clause of his written out of his contract.

'Megson Out', again you're dead right about the money fans commit to following the club around England and Europe. I accept that. But, surely you're not suggesting Anelka was always going to stay? C'mon. That's why I think the commitment of lads like Cahill and Davies is so promising for what is happening at the club now.

'Supera Moras', thanks for the response. Again, maybe we look at the game differently. Against Liverpool, for me it was exciting to watch how Megson was outthinking (strictly my opinion folks!) Benitez by man-marking Gerrard and also isolating Insua against the tall timber. You're not going to outpass a team like Liverpool and Bolton were making the most of their weaknesses. Bolton really had them until Davies was sent-off.

As for the diving, 'Rambus', I just think it opens a big can of worms. How consistent will UEFA be? Is it jsut for trying to win penalties, or could a defender be penalised for falling over in their own half? Personally, I think it's gotta come from within. It's up to the club's senior players and manager to make it clear that diving will not be tolerated.

What? Is this guy ignoring the fact that UEFA charged Dida severely for his acting in the Celtic match? Fair enough it wasn't your typical dive, but still.

"a very good manager"? Are you having a laugh? We were criticised for how we played under Allardyce but believe me that was like watching Brazil compared to this dross Megson has been serving up. I don't think Megson actually watches our opponents beforehand and picks out weaknesses because i'll be damned if he's done anything other than instruct our defenders to hoof it up to Kevin Davies no matter who we're playing.

We finished 13th last season in a very, very poor league which did a good job in disguising our shortcomings, all of which have not been rectified over the summer and if anything have gotten worse.

It's fairly simple Mr. Beattie, watch Bolton under Megson for a full season then you'll fully appreciate why your article has got the Bolton fans' backs up.
