For explanation my last was submitted in reply to the anonymous post of 1855 a few down from here suggesting that several midfield pairings were better than Barry/Ireland.

You're kidding yourself if you believe that.
The CFC midfield probably has the best balance of strength, pace and passing, the Arse midfield has great promise as Arshavin beds in but ManU and Pool have slipped behind their own standards of recent years and Barry/ireland will be up there with the best when MacCIty play with a sweeping DMF infront of the back4 as CFC did with Makelele and do now with John Obiwan. DeJong looks like he could do the job.
Maybe not top 4 yet but I would back them to see off Spurs, Villa and Everton and until ManU and Pool show up and play a bit, the jury is out on them too.

as much as i hate to say this, but ireland is genius. not too sure whether city's midfield as a whole is better than the big four but ireland could probably walk in any of them.
