Real Madrid chief Emilio Butragueno has hit back at the moaning from UEFA president Michel Platini over the club's mega spending this summer.
Speaking about Cristiano Ronaldo's sold-out signing ceremony, Butragueno said: "Real Madrid is a great club, has contributed much to football and, frankly, these type of signings generate excitement and enhance football.
"On Monday we were the first news in the countries that play football and that is good for football.
"There was no precedent and it shows the greatness of the club, which was limited to just opening the doors (of the stadium) and the response was wonderful."
Butragueno also revealed: "We're still trying to strengthen in other key positions."
