New York Red Bull were eventual 2-1 winners over River Plate in a preseason friendly.
River Plate who fielded a mainly reserve team were led by Led by former D.C. United midfielder Marcelo Gallardo. New York took the lead early in the game through a Dane Richards goal, assisted by Khano Smith.
River Plate responded with pressure that led to an Aklie Edwards own goal to bring the game level before a Andrew Boyens strike set up the victory for New York.
New York were without Juan Pablo Angel, who was rested as a precaution after suffering a slight leg injury in the team's 2-1 win vs. Velez Sarsfield.
