Lets be honest if Joe Kinnear or anyone for that matter was manager we'd be in a similar spot to the one we are in now. Our best start to a season was down to the fact that our competitiors had bad starts. I dont think rafa is doing anything that some other manager couldn't do. His team selections are way off the mark far to often for my liking. We've been saying for too long to play the strongest team whenever possible, I think he disrespects the lesser teams and it comes back to bite us so often. 3 seasons ago now I think Red Nose was using similar tactics against the lesser teams and getting beat and dropping points, he gave it up and the next year they win the league. To be honest I don't think our squad is good enough to compete in all competitions, we don't have the same depth of quality as Chelsea or United. We are in 3rd place because we have the 3rd best team, we aren't able to exceed our ability half enough unlike particularly Man U who choke opposition into submission more often than not. We seem to adopt an approach of lets see what happens every game, where as they break teams over 90 mins we seem to have no purpose in our play. All I really want to see is entertaining football at Anfield, we aren't playing attractive football, it would make not winning the league easier to take at least if i enjoyed watching the games.
deemus, mate what are you talking about? why sing all these praises for rafa? do you appreciate his style of play? do you appreciate his over cautious approach to a beautiful game that deserves to be played as beautifully going forward as strong at the back? do you like to see 2 dmfs + 4 defenders and add 2 wingers to that who have been stuffed with "defensive duties" in the head by rafa? i think gerrard's saved him the job a number of times, for which he takes the credit but he's really not fair with the duties an attacking team.Im not in favour of sacking rafa at the moment but he needs to change a great deal of things and whats making fans wanting him to go is his egotistical approach to the game, his persistence of doing what most managers wouldnt, desperately trying to sign players only average teams want, not giving the young talent a chance, his time and again unsuccessful efforts to prove just what a genius thing it was to sign kuyt, lucas and some others.. just dont get why so many pool fans are blindly in love with him!
A fair opinion Foxy, but Rafa out really?
I think he's been a wonderful manager and he's improving and still not got the backing to build his squad, I think Rafa is the man who made Liverpool a top force again, look at the time Ferguson has had, Wenger has lost the plot a bit recently it seems, but they wont sack him, how can we be saying with our best start to a Premier League that we should be sacking the manager? Ferguson had a torrid time when he went to United. Rafa proved he was a top manager with Valencia, he needs years not games to prove it here, we're always moving in the right direction. The business side is obviously a shambles. All above Rafa are seemingly clueless, Rick Parry has been a good club ally in the past, but recently it seems he enjoys conflict a bit too much.
We aren't good enough to compete with man u, take a look at their squad then compare it to ours!! They have a far better stadium, they get huge gate receipts and attract better players. We really got left behind during the 1990s. The only reason we were top of the table was because they played really badly at the start of the season. I go to almost every home game and the football we have been playing has been awful for the most part. We got some very luck results early in the season with goals coming late on in games. In my honest opinion we are miles away from Chelsea and United. We had a great chance to have a nice lead built up but we bottled it plain and simple, we dropped points against rubbish opposition and we look toothless in attack. The games against Everton are prime examples, we just held the ball outside the Everton box without ever really threatening. If Howard hadn't made a blunder we'd be out of the FA cup, I'm not all too confident about the upcoming Real Madrid game at all!! Robben, Van Nistelrooy, Raul, Heinze, Guti, Wesley Schnider(?) to name but a few. If they hit form between now and then we don't stand a chance, they'll play us off the park. They'll make us chase the ball like school kids. Im sick of the club I love being managed at all levels so badly, look at the money Man u make from sponsors and how big their stadium is compared to ours, also how they have fans all across the globe from the touring they do. They make a fortune from Asia alone but we didn't have the foresight to compete in these markets. Rafa out, Parry out, Yanks out!
