Spurs target Downing furious with Middlesbrough management

Stewart Downing is becoming increasingly upset with Middlesbrough over their refusal to allow him to move to Tottenham.

The Daily Mail says the England winger remains determined to quit the Riverside and despite having had his transfer request rejected, has left club officials in doubt of his intention to move to White Hart Lane as soon as possible.

Spurs are prepared to go as a high as £15m to finally land Downing, although the full amount will only be paid if performance related clauses are met.

Middlesbrough manager, Gareth Southgate, is believed to be warming to the idea of sanctioning Downing’s departure if it means he will be giving funds for his own recruitment plans.

Indeed, he is tempted by the possibility of including Spurs left-back Gareth Bale in any potential deal.
