Everton in loan talks for Newcastle striker Smith

Everton are moving for Newcastle United striker Alan Smith.

The Sun says Smith was lined up for a summer move to Goodison before a row blew up over his future that began the end of Kevin Keegan’s reign at St James’ Park.

Smith, 28, was injured soon after the transfer window closed and is still on the comeback trail after ankle surgery.

But Everton chief David Moyes is poised to swoop to solve a striker crisis, with Louis Saha crocked and Yakubu out for the season.
