DC United's Champions League hopes all but over
Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Fri, 10/03/2008 - 00:12
Prior to July 11th of this year DC United had never once lost to a Mexican side at RFK Stadium.
In eleven previous matches in CONCACAF, COMNEBOL, and SUM competitions, DC United had drawn or won every time against a Mexican side. Last night, DC United lost its third consecutive home match against a Mexican side at home with a 1-0 loss to Cruz Azul, a result which all but eliminates the red and black from the CONCACAF Champions League.
United a former CONCACAF Champions Cup champion in 1998, and a finalist or semifinalist seven times in CONCACAF competitions, has zero points through three matches of the new Champions League.
