No fitness concerns for Melbourne’s Thompson

Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson has no doubt he can get through a full game despite not playing one for over a month.

The A-League’s all-time leading scorer has been out of action in recent times because of a broken bone in his foot that required him to wear a moon boot but after returning in the major semi-final second leg against Sydney FC as a substitute two weeks ago, he believes he is ready to go.

“Obviously it’s been a long month for me but I’ve got the moon boot off and I’m back playing again so obviously to be back fit for a match like this is exciting for myself,” he said at today’s pre-match press conference.

“I think because it is such a big match and a big occasion, you seem to find that little bit extra and I’m sure the adrenaline will be pumping and I’m sure I will find that extra lung, even if I borrow it off someone.”

Thompson added that he believed 90 minutes would be enough to find a result, predicting that the match will not go past regular time.

“You do find something and I’m sort of predicting that it won’t go to extra time and there will be a goal before full-time,” he added.
