Nigerians convinced Odemwingie about West Brom

Peter Odemwingie admits West Bromwich Albion's former Nigerian stars convinced him about moving to the Hawthorns.

Former Baggies and fellow Nigeria internationals Kanu and Sam Sodje helped sell the club to Odemwingie, who was yesterday's matchwinner against Sunderland.

"I asked around the Nigerian players who have played here," he told the WBA website. "They said it's a good club and bigger than what I think.

"The first impressions are good and it seems like a good atmosphere for me to live in and play.

"Kanu playing here says something to me - that it's a good place.

"If he, having lived in England for many years, decided to come here then I'm sure he had a good report on the club. The last person I spoke to was Sam Sodje.

"He told me I would have a good time here and it's a good club and good stadium.

"Therefore, I didn't have to think twice about saying 'yes'."
