Newton heaps praise on West Brom attacking fullbacks Shorey, Jara

West Bromwich Albion's marauding full-backs Nicky Shorey and Gonzalo Jara have won praise from assistant manager Eddie Newton.

West Bromwich Albion's marauding full-backs Nicky Shorey and Gonzalo Jara have won praise from assistant manager Eddie Newton.

Newton is delighted how summer signing Shorey has slotted in at left-back since the loss of Marek Cech to injury after the first two league encounters.

And he insists the former Villa man's outstanding performances have been matched on the other flank by Chile international Jara in his first Barclays Premier League season.

"We have done our homework very well but at the same time we have been lucky because they have stepped in brilliantly," Newton told WBA's website.

"To be fair our dressing room is not that hard to step into because everyone is very welcoming, but they have settled in really well.

"Nicky and Gonzalo's performances have been fantastic.

"They defend very well, they're both aggressive but the big thing is that they keep the ball really well.

"We have a footballing philosophy at this club and everyone knows that, so you have to bring in players and full-backs that match that philosophy."
