Newcastle fullback Simpson still mentored by ex-Man Utd teammates

Newcastle United fullback Danny Simpson has revealed how his former senior Manchester United teammates are still mentoring him.

Simpson signed permanently for Toon last month.

He told the Evening Chronicle: “To be brought up through the ranks of a club like Manchester United can only benefit a young player, and that was the case for me at Old Trafford.

“I have also become friends with Rio and I am still in touch with him now.

“Rio has always been there to give me advice and is a good friend.

“He told me coming to Newcastle was a good move for me, and you can only appreciate his advice.

“It is not just him – I can always turn to players like Ryan Giggs for a bit of advice when needed too.

“However, to have a player of Rio’s magnitude there for you is a major plus.”
