Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton is set to make Matthew Kilgallon his first big-money signing.

The Sun says Hughton is lining up a £4m bid to make Sheffield United defender Matt Kilgallon his first signing since being named Newcastle boss.

Hughton tried to sign Kilgallon, 25, in the summer but his £2.5m offer was rejected.

Kilgallon is also interesting Wigan Athletic and Hull City.
