New Zealand prepared for WC opener against Slovakia
New Zealand are counting down to their World Cup opener against Slovakia tonight.
The match takes place at 1:30pm in Rustenburg on Tuesday (9pm Wednesday AEST) and the All Whites are expected to go into the match with a three-prong forward line in a bid to stretch the Slovakian defence.
Middlesbrough’s Chris Killen and Plymouth Argyle’s Rory Fallon will join Gold Coast United star Shane Smeltz up front in the Group F match with the remainder of the starting line-up to include skipper Ryan Nelsen, goalkeeper Mark Paston, midfielders Leo Bertos, Ivan Vicelich and Simon Elliott and defenders Tommy Smith, Winston Reid and Tony Lochhead.
The match against Slovakia will be the All Whites fourth at the World Cup finals and their second overall appearance on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
