New York Red Bulls’ Stammler to retire at end of season

New York Red Bulls midfielder Seth Stammler will end his career at the end of the 2010 MLS season.

The 28-year old has been with the club since 2004 but has decided it time to call it a day after he helps the Red Bulls take out the 2010 MLS Cup.

“After contemplation, I think this is the best decision for me and my future. I want to emphasize that I am fully committed to helping the Red Bulls to firstly, qualify for the playoffs, and secondly, win the MLS Cup,” Stammler said.

“I want to thank Erik Soler, Hans Backe and my teammates for their compete understanding of my situation and I look forward to competing the rest of the season.”

Stammler will join defender Mike Petke in retirement when the current season ends.
