New York Red Bulls’ Henry now a chance for San Jose match
New York Red Bull star Thierry Henry is now a chance to play in Thursday’s second play-off against San Jose Earthquakes.
The Frenchman missed the weekend’s 1-0 win in the Eastern Conference semi-final over the Quakes with a knee injury and earlier in the week he was in major doubt for the return bout.
Red Bulls coach Hans Backe confirmed that Henry, along with Salou Ibrahim, was a chance of playing while giving the all-clear to the likes of Joel Lindpere and Tony Tchani.
"Salou, Tchani and Henry trained today. I think 100 % Tony will be back, Salou (is a) question mark, make a decision tomorrow, and the same for Henry tomorrow after training; just to see how they develop after the injury,'' said Backe.
"His (Henry) being away three weeks doing fitness training all the time, but not being involved in the normal training session with the ball (makes it difficult)….He couldn’t finish today at the game, his movement is excellent, his turning was excellent, looked really sharp. But just to hit the ball, to kick the ball, he feels some pains. So we just have to take a decision tomorrow after training.''
As for Lindpere: "Lindpere is no problem. Like I said, Estonians complain a lot, but when it's time for games, they play. He will be in there, 100 percent,” Backe quipped.
