With the season just completed, MLS have wasted no time in announcing the opening dates of the 2009 season.

Tradition has been held with the opening game featuring a new franchise Thursday, March 19, 2009 will see New York Red Bulls visit Seattle Sounders FC, 9 p.m. (ESPN2/Deportes).
