Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat is on the verge of signing a new deal with the club.

Coach Ernie Merrick said a new deal was in the pipeline for the 35-year old.

"Kevin Muscat's not too far away but he's doing what we call leveraging at the moment for his contract," Merrick said.

Another player the Victory are keen to secure is Costa Rican midfielder Carlos Hernandez who Merrick also commented on.

“We’re working very hard to retain the vast majority of last season’s squad, we feel as though that consistency is vital,” he added.

“Gary Cole is currently dealing with Carlos’s agents.”
