Melbourne Victory pleased with 2009/10 draw
The Victory kick off the season with a Thursday night home game in early August against Central Coast Mariners and will also play two games each against traditional rivals Sydney FC and Adelaide United in Melbourne.
Club CEO Geoff Miles said he was happy with how the Victory faired in the draw.
“We’re really pleased with the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 draw and believe it provides a good mix for our team as well as our loyal members and supporters,” Miles said.
“The expansion of the Hyundai A-League has given us the opportunity to host an additional three home matches at Etihad Stadium this season, and we also have four blockbusters against our key rivals Sydney FC and Adelaide United.
“We have a great start to our Premiership and Championship defence with four of our opening six matches at home.
“We’re also able to provide an even spread of days for our fans with two games each on Thursday and Friday, eight on Saturday, one on Sunday, and one on the Australia Day public holiday.
“We will face some challenges on the road midway during the season and we do have some tight turnarounds in January, however overall we believe the draw for the new season is a very positive one for our club.”
