Melbourne Victory are hopeful that midfielders Carlos Hernandez and Nick Ward overcome minor injury problems to get up for the top of the table clash with Sydney FC tomorrow night.

Hernandez, who has been one of the best players in the A-League this season, has a slight ankle injury whilst Ward, who has hit back in impressive form recently, hurt his calf at training during the week.

Victory coach Ernie Merrick is hopeful on both cases but is confident his medical staff have done enough to get the attacking duo up for what promises to be the biggest game of the home and away season.

"He's (Hernandez) much more determined than when he arrived," Merrick said. He's a very reliable player and I'm sure he'll come up.

"He's had a range of treatment and he's been working hard in the gym. He looks OK, but we'll make the final call tomorrow."

Ward’s situation is slightly more concerning for the Victory but the club will give him until the last minute to try and prove his fitness.
