Melbourne Victory to be without Kruse for up to a month

In-form Melbourne Victory striker Robbie Kruse looks set to be sidelined for about a month with a thigh injury.

In-form Melbourne Victory striker Robbie Kruse looks set to be sidelined for about a month with a thigh injury.

The 22-year old, who has scored four times in his last five outings, sustained the injury in the 1-0 loss to Gold Coast United on Saturday night and will now sit out at least the next three weeks according to coach Ernie Merrick.

"The initial assessment is three weeks or maybe a week more," Merrick said yesterday.

"It's something all teams have to contend with and we're not making a big deal about our injuries."

The news isn’t all bad as at least the Victory have star goalscorer Archie Thompson back in the fray after he managed to get through 45 minutes after returning from an eight month spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

“We've got a few options, but we won't jeopardise Archie," Merrick added.

"Archie has pulled up very well and he'll definitely play in Perth. He might travel a day early, but he won't be starting.

"Having Archie back was great and playing 45 minutes was a bonus."
