Melbourne Victory’s Hernandez returns to Costa Rica to visit sick son
Melbourne Victory midfielder Carlos Hernandez has put pre-season training and contract negotiations on hold.
Hernandez has rushed back to his native Costa Rica to visit his son who has fallen ill.
"We don't believe the illness is related to this swine flu situation. But his son has fallen very ill, but we just don't know the exact nature of the illness," said Victory media boss Trent Jacobs.
"We just don't know.”
Jacobs said that contract talks would continue when Hernandez had taken care of more important matters.
"He's obviously a very key player for us in our championship defence and negotiations are ongoing, but also advanced a lot further than in the last couple of weeks," added Jacobs.
"There is no announcement right now [on the transfer], but it's getting closer."
