Melbourne’s Allsopp backs diver bans
Submitted by Andrew Slevison on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 21:41
Melbourne Victory’s Daniel Allsopp believes Football Federation Australia’s crackdown on divers is good for the game.
FFA will become just the second competition worldwide to use video replays of players who simulate in an attempt to get free-kicks or have players sent off.
Allsopp said that it was a great idea to clean up the sport.
"It's a good thing," Allsopp said.
"Ernie (Merrick, Melbourne coach) stated from the outset that we're not divers and we won't accept players who dive. Players from overseas have had to take that on board.
"We've been encouraging that sort of changing side of the game.
"A lot of the public don't like the diving side of the game so if they can reduce it or stamp it out that's a good thing."
