McLeish: I have taken current Birmingham squad as far as I can
Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish wants assurances over transfer market ambitions before committing to a new contract.
Rather than personal riches, McLeish wants guarantees that the club’s owners match his own high ambitions for the team in the summer.
“It’s OK the board saying to me personally, ‘Here are all the bonuses in the world’ but without the players I can’t do that, no matter how hard I try,” McLeish told The Times. “I do not have a magic wand. I cannot keep doing what I have done this season. We will have to invest. We will have to spend money in the summer.
“They know I am an ambitious man and I want to take the club forward, but I need the tools to do that. It does not matter how much bonuses the board offer me. I could not do any more than I am doing now.”
