McDonald nets a brace as Celtic held to draw
Scott McDonald was on hand to score twice for Celtic as they were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by lowly Falkirk.
It was a clash of top versus bottom at Falkirk Stadium with the home side in desperate need of a win after starting the season without one whilst Celtic were keen to push further clear at the top of the table.
The Hoops started well but could not capitalise and midfielder Aiden McGeady even saw his 44th minute spot-kick saved by Falkirk keeper Robert Olejnik but they managed to go ahead ten minutes after the break through Gary Caldwell.
The home side reacted quickly and equalised soon after thanks to a Scott Arfield penalty and then against the odds, Falkirk went ahead in the 64th minute when Pedro Moutinho volleyed home from eight yards out.
This stunned the Glasgow giants and prompted manager Tony Mowbray to make some changes, introducing McDonald and China international Zheng Zhi to the fray.
Five minutes after he was brought on, McDonald got the Hoops back on level terms with a 72nd minute header from a Daniel Fox cross before putting his side ahead with just over ten minutes to go when he found himself with space and tapped into an empty net.
It seemed like McDonald’s brilliance had done the job for Celtic but Falkirk netted a dramatic equaliser in the 83rd minute through substitute Mark Stewart to take a share of the points.
