Man Utd youngster Corry Evans backed to match Jonny success
Former Manchester United midfielder Sammy McIlroy believes Corry Evans can follow brother Jonny into the United first team.
Evans scored the winner for Northern Ireland against Slovenia on Friday.
And McIlroy told the Manchester Evening News: “One thing that will stand Corry in good stead is his versatility.
“I have watched him a number of times in United’s reserves and he looks a great prospect. He is a 100 percenter. His workrate is fantastic. He is unbelievable in the way he covers the ground and he can pass too.
“He proved for Northern Ireland on Friday that he also has a goal in his locker and for any midfielder that is a big bonus. If you can get up and down the pitch like he does and cause some damage it can give you an edge over someone else.
“His international career is at a very early stage but confidence wise scoring the winner for your country is going to be a massive boost for him. Corry will be flying now.
“It is very difficult to break into United’s first team but he has a great opportunity now to cement himself in the Northern Ireland squad and team.
“That can only help his progress at Old Trafford. It is great experience.
“He has a great tutor at United in Sir Alex Ferguson. There is nobody better at keeping young player’s feet on the ground.
“He has also got the extra bonus of being able to listen and take advice from his brother.”
