Man Utd striker Owen: Gaffer has told me how I will be used this term

Michael Owen has revealed he knows how Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson intends to use him this season.

The former England striker accepts he won't be a regular starter.

Owen said: "This year I scored against Scunthorpe. Next game I was on the bench, but came on and scored and then we went to Valencia, used three strikers and I was an unused sub.

"Straight after the game the manager came up and talked to me about it.

"When you are younger you don't think rationally about things but now I understand what I'm trying to do. You see the game and how it's transpiring. Every striker is different. I wouldn't be good coming on in certain games.

"When we are having possession and need a goal, at Old Trafford for example, I'd be suited to it.

"But if it's away at Arsenal, and it's an even game, probably a different type of player would be better suited."
