Man Utd skipper Neville: Cup kids are Premiership class
Manchester United captain Gary Neville says all the youngsters that featured in their Carling Cup win over Tottenham are Premiership class.
Two-goal Darron Gibson, Danny Welbeck, Gabriel Obertan and Ritchie de Laet all impressed against Harry Redknapp’s team just six days after Sir Alex Ferguson’s young crop were the subject of criticism following the 1-0 Champions League defeat at home to Besiktas.
And Neville, one of Manchester United's so-called ‘golden’ generation of youngsters who emerged in the early-1990s, insists that the club’s new batch have already done enough to move beyond the stage of being unheralded rookies.
Neville said: “I don’t think they should be called ‘younger players.’ Some of them are 19, 20, 21 years of age.
“Some of them are playing for their countries and they are all playing for United by right.
“The criticism they get is unfair at times, but they are playing for Manchester United and, when you lose a game, that’s what happens.
“But they can hold their own at this level. They have quality and they shouldn’t be regarded as young players.
“They are obviously developing, but they have the quality to play in the Premier League.”

Ileon ever heard of giggs beckham, scholes the nevilles nicky butt? Any of them along with Roy keane who we signed when he was in his early 20's. These were a group of youngsters that have won many trophies and even inspired the famous quote by alan hansen "you don't win anything with kids" which is still lauded over him. Fergie was the first manage to bring a whole group of kids through the ranks into the first team. Hell he started before wenger was even at arsenal so dont start ranting about how arsene is setting a new standard and fergie is copying him as fergie has been there and won it all with players he brought through the acadamy.
i get your point but no needs for caps locks. the only difference btwn fergie's fledglings and arsenal - talented as they are, is ferguson instills a winning belief into them. that's what counts in football results - last season these same youngsters took the carling cup, no mere feat for 20/21 year olds. think before you speak. macheda, for example, came on and scored two vital goals for us. he was also part of those carling cup teams. ferguson is the master of developing youngsters with a winning mentality - that, my friend is the difference. go see what g. pique is doing now, his 2 years at utd & the bags of experience he got here obviously helped. barring barca's youth development i'd say we're one of the most talented and exceptional when it comes to developing top class youngsters with winning attitudes.
WHY ALL THE STUPID FUSS ABT THE SO CALLED YOUNGSTERS. WENGER HAS WITHIN THE RELATIVE SHORTER TIME HE HAS STAYED IN ARSENAL MADE A MASTERY OF DEVELOPING AND SHOWING BELIEF IN EVEN MORE JUNIOR PLAYERS. WHY WLD IT BE SOMETING OF A NEWS THAT FERGUSON THAT WORKS IN A RICHER AND MORE STABLE CLUB AND HAS ENJOYED A LONGER TENURE IS JUST STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF DEVELOPING THE GUTS FOR SAME.THERE'S ALWAYS THE ENGLISH THING OF WANTING TO OVER-BLOW ANYTHING MAN-U. FUNNY ENOUGH EVN IN THIS TIME OF PREMIERSHIP FLOURISH EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS FROM ALL COUNTRIES WOULD STILL GO TO BARCA AND MARID. THAT SHOWS THE WORLD IS NOT BEING MISLED AFTERALL!
