Manchester United No2 Mike Phelan admits they pushed Rio Ferdinand ahead of schedule for Saturday's win at Tottenham.

“With not being involved in the international (game), he couldn’t go to that, so he’s managed to get the treatment, get a little bit of work in," said Phelan.

"It was probably pushing him a little to play him today (against Tottenham) but we felt as though if he didn’t get minutes today then when do you give it to him, because we have got another couple of games coming up pretty quickly but he’ll be better for that after today.”
